by isleofman.com 17th July 2007
The Isle of Man team got off to a flying start as the Lloyds TSB sponsored 2007 Inter-Island gymnastics competition opened at Manx Gymnastics Centre of Excellence on Monday. In a thrilling day of competition, the Isle of Man teams performed well against the competing Islands, with the packed crowds enjoying top class action.

The Island Junior girls team of Rebecca Johnson, Emily Munro, Lyndsey Beynon, Grace Harrison and Tegan Dixon opened the day with victory in the team floor & Vault competition with Bermuda and Jersey taking second and third respectively.

The Tables were turned in the Senior team competition for the top two as Bermuda edged out the Isle of Man Team of Phoebe Cowell, Rachel Cook, Christine Stoddart, Katie Norman & Olivia Curran. The Faroe Islands this time came home in bronze placing. Olivia’s floor routine was nearly faultless receiving only a 0.2 deduction for a score of 13.3.

The Isle of Man swept the board in the Junior & Senior Mens’ set 6 piece individual competition in the afternoon. Brandon Garrett collected 4 golds on individual pieces to help him to overall victory, ahead of Charlie Marshall and Colin Furner, all three representing the Manx Team.
In the Senior competition, Alex Hedges’ 3 apparatus golds ensured that he took the overall title, with team mates Mukunda Measuria and Joe Smith taking home siver and bronze medals overall.

Looking forward to Wednesday, the Men’s team competition starts at 9.30 am with the Junior girls 4 piece set starting at 11.10 and the Senior girls at 2.15 in the afternoon.
