Island must maintain standards - Cretney

The Isle of Man's manufacturing industry has been dealt a blow today with news 60 jobs are to go at Strix in Ramsey.

The kettle component makers will transfer the work to China, where costs are lower.

Trade and Industry Minister David Cretney says the government is doing all it can for those affected by the cuts, including helping workers find new jobs.

He says the Isle of Man must maintain its standards against the rise of low-wage economies:
