Practice report from Geoff Cannell:-
Conditions are set fair for this evening’s second practice session due to start at 6.15pm. Roads will close at six o’clock. All classes except the Classic and Ultra Lightweight will have a 50-minute slot until 7.05pm, then to be followed by the remainder for a further hour.

Last night, the start of practice was delayed half-an-hour while marshals were re-positioned and a parked car in Ramsey removed. Once proceedings got under way, a large field of newcomers were escorted by travelling marshals on a sighting lap. Helping out were TT aces Chris Palmer, Chris Heath, Richard Quayle and John Barton.

Also on duty was Sandygate’s Brett Gaites, who is making his final appearance as a travelling marshal this year, having given 20 years’ voluntary service at the MGP, TT, Southern 100 and Andreas Club meetings.

The rest of the entry then enjoyed a couple of laps apiece, with TT star Ryan Farquhar making an MGP debut appearance on the 500cc Italian Paton twin.

A total of 320 machines passed through scrutineering, with 90 of the 115 entries in the Junior class taking top position.

There were a few spills, but none of a serious nature.

1972 Senior MGP winner Dave Hughes from Folkestone injured his left arm when he crashed his 350cc Classic Manx Norton at Union Mills.

The other four riders who fell off were all pronounced OK. Three were caught out at Governor’s Bridge -- newcomer David Yeomans from Skerries on a 400cc Honda; John Harrison from Douglas on a 600cc Honda; and John Batty from Leconfield on a 400cc Kawasaki. The other faller was Steven Gibbs from Tewkesbury (350cc Classic Honda) at Cruickshank’s Corner in Ramsey.
