Wheat growers on the Island are to get some respite after being battered by the weather this summer.
Laxey Glen Mills says it is to make an additional contribution to the price per tonne of Manx wheat, outside the parameters set by the Wheat Scheme 2002. The scheme was set up to afford some protection against sudden falls to the wheat price generally.
Those prices are currently high in the UK and the Mills say, in the UK, the price of flour has had to rise substantially. However, here, they intend to hold their current price structure until January next year.
The last rise in the price of flour was in May.
