Insider trading investigation

by isleofman.com 4th September 2007
The American Securities and Exchange Commission says it will send representatives to the Isle of Man to meet witnesses in an insider trading investigation.

The SEC is looking into insider trading in Placer Dome Inc. after accusing Toronto investor John Fraleigh of illegally earning more than ?2.5 million in 2005.

In a filing in New York’s District Court, the SEC says it wants to question 15 witnesses in three countries, including the Isle of Man.

Because it can’t force foreign residents to give evidence, the SEC will need a court order here requiring the witnesses to appear.

Mr Fraleigh denies any wrongdoing.
