IOM should concentrate on winning

The founder of the Island Games has come out in support of a call for the Isle of Man to focus more on winning medals in future, than sending large teams to compete.

The Island's Sports Council chairman has expressed disappointment at the Manx medal tally at the Island Games in Rhodes this year.

Geoff Karran wants only genuine medal contenders to go in future.

And the man who invented the competition, so-called 'Father of the Games' Geoff Corlett, agrees.

Mr Corlett (pictured) opposed the scrapping of the Island Games trophy in 1995, and says it has resulted in less attention on actually winning:
