Kennaugh powers Vagabonds to victory

by isleofman.com 8th September 2007
Two excellent solo tries from flanker Bryan Kennaugh saw off a stiff challenge from Anselmians as Skanco Vagabonds got their Euromanx League campaign off to a flying start with a 27-7 home win.

After a bit of a shaky start, Vagas settled into the game with a penalty from skipper Johnny Beckley.

Ewald Kilian extended the lead shortly afterwards with a try which Beckley converted and Vagas were sitting pretty on a 10-0 lead.

Akki van der Berg linked up well with Kilian and Ross Pullman to put Vagas further ahead and Beckley’s touchline conversion made it 17-0 at the break.

Anselmians bounced back in the second half with a try from centre Mark Petterson after a bit of a mix up in the Vagas defence resulted in a fluffed clearance.

Petterson converted his own try to reduce the deficit to ten points but that was the end of the revival as Kennaugh stepped up to the oche.

His first came in the 57th minute after Kilian found some space up the middle and offloaded to Kennaugh who skinned the Anselmians defence on the outside.

His second came in the 74th minute and began on halfway with four men to beat.

The first got the hand off, the second was outpaced, the third was just barged out of the way and he carried the fourth over the line with him to seal the match.
