Geordies back on top

by isleofman.com 23rd September 2007
St George’s are back in a familiar position.

The reigning champions are top of the Sure Mobile Premier League after they won 4-1 at Ramsey, coupled with newly promoted Old Boys’ superb start to the season finally ending with a 3-1 defeat at Gymns.

The Geordies moved to the summit with goals from Martin Torr, Callum Morrissey, Michael McHale and Sean Quaye.

Ashley Webster notched the Ramsey goal.

At Tromode, goals from Ciaran McNulty (two, one a penalty) and Paul Murphy ensured Old Boys slipped to their first defeat of the season.

Sean Gavin had fired them in front before McNulty equalised for Gymns.

Old Boys were reduced to 10 men following the sending-off of Lee Ford in the incident which led to McNulty putting Gymns in front from the penalty spot before Murphy sealed the points.

Union Mills stay in third after a 2-1 home success over Douglas Royal.

Steven Quine and Sam Cain were the Mills’ scorers.

Peel won well in the western derby, 4-1 at St John's, helped by a Juan Killip double.

Mike Peace scored the St John’s reply.

A goal in each half from Johnny Cowley ensured Ayre won 2-0 at home to Corinthians who finished the match with nine men and remain bottom and pointless after six games.
