Death of well known publican

A familiar face from past years, behind the bar of one of the best known pubs in the south of the Island, has died.

John William 'Billy' Williams was the publican at the Albert Hotel in Port st Mary for many years, going back to the time when tourism was king in the Island.

He was 85.

The funeral will be on Monday at St Mary's Church in the village at 2pm, followed by interment at Rushen.

Jeff Joughin, of the Licensed Victuallers, and The Albert in Douglas, says Billy was a tremendous publican and knew his pub and his customers very well (audio file attached):
