'Organised crime' claim by journalist

by isleofman.com 8th October 2007
An expert on investigative journalism claims that organised crime has a 'large presence' on the Island.

Gavin McFadyen (pictured) was on the Island recently to address a recent meeting of the Positive Action Group.

He says many police organisations around the world are interested in the Isle of Man, particularly in relation to money laundering.

He claims it's well known in certain circles that money from drug dealing does pass through the Island (audio file attached):

The Isle of Man has frequently been cited as one of the best regulated off-shore centres in the global finance industry. Within the next 12 months the International Monetary Fund will be carrying out one of its regular inspections of the Manx financial industry and its regulation.

Gavin McFadyen was speaking on Manx Radio's Sunday Opinion.
