Lloyd for IndyCar

by isleofman.com 18th October 2007
Santon based driver Alex Lloyd has signed for Chip Ganassi Racing for the 2008 season to join the outfits Driver Development programme.

Chip Ganassi Racing runs cars in several series including Indy Car itself - the driver line-up for this campaign was Scott Dixon and Dan Wheldon.

Alex dominated the recently finished Indy Pro Series to become champion in record-breaking style. He notched up eight wins and five pole positions.

In August, Alex was invited to a test session with the Target Indycar team, owned by Chip Ganassi Racing, at Sebring International Raceway. He impressed hugely consistently setting lap times that were equal to and quicker than Scott Dixon - this at his first session behind the wheel of an Indycar.

Prior to going out to the United States to foster a career in motorsport, Alex finished as runner-up in the 2003 UK Formula Renault Championship behind a certain Lewis Hamilton, was named as the McClaren Young Driver of the Year, earned three poles and a win in just seven Formula 3000 races in 2005, and raced for Great Britain in the first A1
Grand Prix series alongside Robbie Kerr....although opportunities were severly limited.

Next season, Alex will race in a combination of the Indy Car Series, Grand Am races and a great deal of testing.
