Corinthians caused the shock of the season so far by defeating reigning champions St George’s on Saturday.
The Whites, who only won their first match of the campaign a week ago and went into the game bottom of the table, sealed a superb 4-3 success to move the club off the bottom and out of the relegation zone and end the champions 100 per cent record.
Goals from the talented strike partnership of Jamie Stoy (two) and Steve Glover, and Steve Ward, secured the points.
Julian Ringham, Martin Torr and Chris Bass junior were on target for the Geordies, who fought back from 3-1 down to 3-3 before slipping to defeat.
The other newly promoted side, Old Boys, have been the team of the season so far and moved to within two points of St George’s with a 3-2 home win over Douglas Royal - Gary Quirk, Callum Stewart and Darren Hudgeon the scorers.
The result also confirmed their qualification for the Railway Cup – an excellent achievement.
Steve Finnan scored twice for Royal, both from the penalty spot.
Peel turned on the style to stay in third with a 6-1 rout at Gymns.
The westerners’ impressive run of form continued with goals from Marc Kelly (two), Juan Killip (two), a Kevin Megson penalty and Scott Mylchreest.
Two of the other sides in the race for Railway Cup qualification met at Garey Mooar and did exactly what neither wanted – shared the spoils!
Union Mills and Rushen drew 2-2 with Rushen goalkeeper Aron Storrie the late hero by saving a penalty.
Meanwhile, Laxey’s chase also gained a point as they were held to a goalless draw by Ayre United at Andreas.
Ramsey and St John's are now the two clubs in the relegation zone after they drew 1-1 at Ballacloan.
John Roberts scored against his old club before Darren Jones equalised for Ramsey.
