Mark Cavendish transferred his great form on the road to the track on Saturday night at the Revolution 17 event at Manchester Velodrome.

Racing got underway with the Elite Men's Motor Paced Scratch race over 7km. Cavendish looked fairly innocuous as the race reached its climax but he came over the top of the field at the bell. Coming up to the line he was neck and neck with Geraint Thomas but the Manx rider took the honours to rapturous applause.

Cav then teamed up with Ed Clancy for the 1km Madison time trial. Jamie Staff and Rob Hayles set a tough time - but the duo tore up the track for the win.

Cavendish was sixth in the 10km Points Race.

Some of the Island's younger cycling stars were also in action on Saturday in the Future Stars series.

Chris Whorral, who along with Mark Christian was recently selected for British Cycling's Olympic Development programme, came second in both the 1 mile dash and the 5km Scratch race.

1 mile dash: Tim Kennaugh 20th; Chris Nicholson 22nd
20 lap Points race: Tim Kennaugh 13th; Chris Nicholson 17th
5km Scratch race: Chris Nicholson 10th; Tim Kennaugh 21st

After one round Whorral is 10th overall, Nicholson is 14th and Kennaugh is 20th.

Junior World Champion Peter Kennaugh is a former winner of the Future Stars series and Christian just missed out on the overall win last year.
