by isleofman.com 24th October 2007
Scorer of over 22,000 runs in first class Cricket, David Steele will be the guest speaker at the Isle of Man Cricket Association annual dinner and prize prestentation on Friday the 2nd of November.

Renowned for his defiant innings against the Aussies, Steele was BBC Sports Personality of the year in 1975. With his grey hair and steel rimmed glasses, he was described as "the bank clerk who went to war".

During his benefit season, he persuaded a Northamptonshire butcher to reward him in kind, and finished up with 1,756 lamb chops - one for every run he scored.

The dinner is being held in the Masonic Hall, Douglas. Tickets are available from Island Secretary Mark Entwisle who can be contacted on 494762.
