Firework drama in Peel

A Peel man has been describing how being in the right place at the right time helped him save a little girl from being badly injured by a firework.

Danny Oxtoby was in his workshop in Orry Lane on Sunday afternoon when sparks from a stray firework landed in the hood of the child's shell-suit jacket.

As the heat began to melt the fabric Danny grabbed a fire extinguisher and smothered it.

The little girl, who was visiting the Island, wasn't badly hurt.
