War veterans go back to school

Three veterans from World War Two were at St Ninian's High School yesterday, for a special assembly.

As part of Armistice Week, history teacher Andrew Wilkinson arranged for an actor to come over and deliver a powerful 20 minute monologue, based on the experiences of a soldier in the First World War.

The veterans, Hector Duff, Albert Fair and Harry Bacon all told Manx Radio of the importance of keeping younger generations aware of the sacrifices made in the two conflicts.

And Mr Bacon recalled an amusing incident from his time serving in Normandy:
