Jail for drug addict thief

by isleofman.com 7th November 2007
A 22 year old man who stole over ?1000 worth of goods to fund his drug habit has been jailed for a total of 20 months.

Adam Alan Cowan, care of the prison, admitted six counts of theft from shops in Douglas and Castletown earlier this year.

His advocate said Cowan had stolen the goods in order to buy heroin, which he was addicted to, but now wished to be drug free and was receiving help in prison.

In passing sentence, Deemster Doyle said some of the offences were clearly planned and there was an element of premeditation, but noted Cowan's desire to move on and address his problems.
