End of Foot and Mouth port controls

by isleofman.com 8th November 2007
Foot and Mouth control measures are once again being scaled down in the Isle of Man.

The move follows DEFRA's lifting of the surveillance zone in the United Kingdom and the completion of the organisation's surveillance work and testing of almost 50,000 animals.

Checks by DAFF officers at the Sea Terminal and airport ceased at 12 noon today, but the import ban on livestock and controls on the commercial importation of meat will stay in place until further notice.

People travelling to the Isle of Man should also note the UK ban on exporting personal quantities of meat and dairy products also remains for the time being.

Agriculture Minister Phil Gawne (pictured) says it's reassuring the UK has 'successfully passed this important milestone on its journey back to foot and mouth-free status.'
