Heroin addict jailed

by isleofman.com 8th November 2007
A 32 year old heroin addict has been jailed for four months.

Bernard Leavey of Lheannag Park, Douglas admitted possessing the drug.

The prosecution said Leavey was detained in the town last month and when asked if he had any drugs he said there were six or seven wraps at home in his bedroom, which were for his own use.

Edward Oldham reports (text, below, from attached audio file):

The wraps were recovered, along with a quantity of cash, which Leavey said he had won through gambling.

His advocate said Leavey had a long-standing problem with drug misuse but was now trying to sort himself out and had funded his habit through gambling.

Deemster Doyle said Leavey was a sad example of the disastrous effect Class A drugs had on a person, but noted he seemed to want to lead a better and more normal life.
