Economy still very strong - Bell

by isleofman.com 17th January 2008
The Treasury Minister says the Isle of Man's economy is still in a very strong position, despite increasing talk of a recession hitting the United Kingdom.

Allan Bell was speaking in the light of recent figures which show a marginal increase in unemployment, up by nine people to 1.4% of the economically active population.

Mr Bell (pictured) says the small rise was affected by students returning home over Christmas and signing on, and the Island still has one of the lowest unemployment rates in Europe.

He says the Isle of Man can't afford to be complacent, but equally mustn't let itself drift into economic doldrums for no real reason (audio file attached):

Allan Bell was speaking to Stuart Peters, live on Mandate.
