The Steam Packet Company is to close its Belfast contact centre in March, with the loss of eight jobs.
Chief Executive Mark Woodward says the decision has been made because the number of customers booking online has risen by over 60%.
That has resulted in call levels to the centre falling from 736,000 in 2003 to 223,000 in 2007.
The eight permanent staff will be offered redundancy packages.
The call centre will be relocated to the Sea Terminal in Douglas, where staff will combine contact centre and check-in duties.
