Diver inquest continues

by isleofman.com 6th March 2008
An inquest will this morning try to find out how an experienced diver died on a simple, shallow dive in almost perfect conditions.

Michael Bromsgrove of Liverpool drowned after just ten minutes in the water off Bradda Head.

Yesterday, Coroner of Inquests Michael Moyle was told the 41 year old changed his mind at the last minute and decided to join the dive.

But a computerised diving log showed he spent just a minute on the sea floor before heading back to the boat.

Jason Roberts reports:

Albert Edward Roberts of Aintree was Mr Bromsgrove’s friend and said they’d both been diving for ten years and were highly experienced.

He told the court they’d gone to the wreck of the Citrine off Port Erin but hadn’t intended to dive as they thought the dive as a bit too easy. Mr Bromsgrove changed his mind and dived, but just minutes later fellow diver Clive Ward of Yorkshire found Mr Bromsgrove lying on the bottom, facing up with his eyes open.

They got him back to the boat and tried to resuscitate him but Mr Bromsgrove was pronounced dead when the boat arrived at Port Erin.

The inquest continues.
