Island reaches out to the Far East

by isleofman.com 10th March 2008
The Environment Minister has returned from a trip to South Korea, where he promoted the Isle of Man at a gathering attended by political leaders from all over the world.

John Shimmin was invited to represent the Island at the inauguration of the country's new president, Lee Myung-bak (see picture).

But he also made the most of the opportunity to extend the Manx Government's global network of business and political connections.

He told Manx Radio the Island's presence at such a top-level gathering was another sign of its rising international identity.

While he was in the Far East he provided background information on the Isle of Man's distinct culture and history, and explained the educational opportunities on offer here to the Director of the British Council.
