?8m fund will have 'major impact'

The Leader of Douglas Town Council is excited by the inclusion of ?8 million in last month's budget, to improve the infrastructure of the Island's towns and villages.

The money, described by Treasury Minister Allan Bell as 'an initial sum', will be spent on projects with specific focus on the retail environment.

Mr Bell recently said the centre of Douglas was 'shabby and downtrodden', and David Christian hopes some of the cash can be used to re-lay the whole of the walkway, through the centre of the shopping area, from Market Street to Castle Street.
