Minister gets green light

DoLGE Minister John Shimmin (pictured) has warned Tynwald against being risk averse.

Mr Shimmin wanted members to approve the agreement of a 999 year lease between his department and developers Askett-Hawk for the Lord Street Bus Station site.

Many felt this time scale was too long, and suggested perhaps the Island wasn’t getting the best possible deal for this proposed development, and there were calls for the debate to be adjourned.

Members did approve the motion, on the basis that any plans for the proposed development would be coming back for approval at a later date.

Mr Shimmin admits that in effect it's giving the developers a freehold on the site:
