A wooden chest made at the height of renowned Manx artist Archibald Knox's design career was expected to fetch a sum running into six figures at auction today.
Knox was born in the Isle of Man and became one of the foremost artist-designers of the late 19th-early 20th centuries.
The architect or engineer's chest (pictured) which features unique Celtic and Norse symbols, was due to go under the hammer at an autioneer's at Penrith in Cumbria.
There was strong interest from collectors in America and all phone lines to the auction were booked.
