An Archibald Knox wooden chest raised more than ?43,500 at auction today.
The unique piece of furniture, once owned by the renowned Manx artist-designer, was the subject of fierce bidding at a Penrith auction house this afternoon.
Although there was a lot of interest from America, it's understood the piece went to a United Kingdom buyer.
The Archibald knox Society in the Island, which promotes his legacy, says it's 'amazed' at the sum, as it's unclear whether Knox designed the chest or was given it as a gift.
The Society is hoping the buyer may put it on display in future.
