Worldwide parliamentary privilege

by isleofman.com 13th March 2008
A member of the House of Keys has closed a loop-hole which could have left MHKs and MLCs open to legal action.

John Houghton has put forward an amendment to the Administration of Justice Bill to ensure the safeguards of parliamentary privilege apply in other jurisdictions.

It's because Hansard reports of Tynwald proceedings can now be accessed via the Internet worldwide, and it would have been possible for someone in another country to take action if they objected to something a member said.
