Man the trenches!

One of the best known competitions of rural life in the Island gets underway this evening (Fri).

The Cronk y Voddy Ploughing Society's 'Big Spud' competition, immortalised in verse by Dot Tilbury, will begin tonight with the issue of seed potatoes to competitors.

The ceremonial hand-out will take place at the Cronk y Voddy Young Men's Social Club at 8pm.

The Big Spud competition is open to anyone brave enough to take up the challenge.

Once the seeds have been given out, there will be a slide show of scenes of the Isle of Man presented by Ian Quayle of Baldrine followed by supper.
