by isleofman.com 18th March 2008
The new governor of the Island's prison has been announced.

Mrs Alison Gomme will take up the post in June.

She's currently governor of two prisons near Birmingham.

Originally from Hornsea, Mrs Gomme has an honours degree in psychology and joined the prison service in 1980. She has been governor of four prisons including Erlestoke and Chelmsford, and also spent a year in the United States studying federal and county jails.

Home Affairs Minister Martyn Quayle welcomed the appointment and said he looked forward to Mrs Gomme leading the Island's prison service at the start of a new era in Jurby.
