DTL pledges to provide sports facilities

One new comunity-based sports facility to open in the Island every year, from 2009.

That's the pledge from the Department of Tourism and Leisure, which is looking to create many more opportunities for people to get out and get active, close to home.

The plan is to improve or extend facilities in schools and community centres, for arts and cultural activities as well as sport.

The scheme involves the DTL working with the Sports Council and Department of Education.

Tourism Minister Adrian Earnshaw (pictured) told the Keys this week it has wider benefits for society as a whole:
