No concerns over army recruitment

The Department of Education says Manx pupils are not being signed up to the army while they're in school.

Members of the National Union of Teachers have condemned the Ministry of Defence for basing recruitment campaigns on propaganda.

They claim teenagers are being given 'misleading' information which glamorises war.

But the Isle of Man's 11-19 Education Advisor Paul Craine says that is not happening over here.

He says the army visits occasionally to raise awareness about the role of the armed services, while job opportunities are dealt with at a specific careers convention.

However, Mr Craine says the department has no concerns about children joining the army against their will (audio file attached):
