The Isle of Man Employers’ Federation has written to its members warning them of a rogue trainer targeting Island companies.

The training provider has been offering to carry out mass worker assessments and issue competency cards to plant operators and farmers.

But the federation says the cards are worthless and won’t be accepted by the government, health and safety professionals and insurance companies.

In the letter the federation says ultimately, it’s a company’s legal duty to train its own staff and bringing in an external trainer must be in accordance with legislation and industry guidelines.

In the warning, the organisation says if anything goes wrong, ultimately it will be your company, not the trainer, who ends up in court.
