Airlines defend charges

by isleofman.com 26th March 2008
Airline chiefs in the Island have been defending the credit card charges their firms levy for online bookings.

Euromanx CEO John Seymour and Flybe's Mike Rutter say the fees are imposed on them by credit card firms and banks to run the systems and they have to pass them on to customers.

A recent study by the Isle of Man Office of Fair Trading found charges when booking for a family of four ranged, depending on the carrier, from nothing to ?24.

Travelwatch Chairman Brendan O'Friel argues that because different firms charge different amounts, there should be further investigations into the matter.
