CAV IS WORLD CHAMPION

by isleofman.com 29th March 2008
Manx cyclist Mark Cavendish is a World Champion!

Together with Bradley Wiggins, the Laxey rider won the Madison race amid emotional scenes at the Manchester Velodrome.

With about 30 laps to go, the British pairing had gathered the most sprint points but were a lap down on four other nations.

Wiggins made the first move to get the lap back and Cav finished it off, to give the duo the World title.

There had been a fitness doubt concerning Cavendish before the event as he picked up a slight groin strain in Friday night's Points Race in which he finished 15th.

However, the Isle of Man Sportsman of the Year passed a fitness test earlier today to be able to compete alongside his High Road team-mate Bradley Wiggins who has now completed a hat-trick of World Track titles this week.
