Bacchas survive scare

by isleofman.com 29th March 2008
Cup holders Bacchas A survived a scare but showed their character to move into the semi-finals of the Men’s Cup on Saturday.

They defeated Vikings A 3-1 on penalty flicks after a 2-2 draw.

Vikings produced an impressive showing and took a 2-0 half-time lead through Conor Byrne and a Paul Kelly penalty.

However, Bacchas fought back through Tom Wilson and Richard Le Page goals before winning the shoot-out.

It was also a dramatic finish to the other quarter-final as Valkyrs B won on sudden death flicks against Castletown B after a 3-3 draw.

Jonah Hull (two) and Jonny Cain had been the Valkyrs B scorers.

Ramsey A secured their place in the last four with a 3-1 win over Castletown A.

Goals from Ed Chatterley, Dave Bolton and Steve Jackson booked Saracens’ place in the men’s plate semi-finals with a 3-1 win over Harlequins, whose goal was scored by Pete Nuttall.

In the women’s cup quarter-finals, Andrea Kneen hit four as Valkyrs A hit Bacchas B for six without reply – Steph Lace and Ali Caroon grabbing the others.

In the only other tie to survive the weather, which caused a number of matches to be postponed and abandoned, Valkyrs C and Saracens were involved in an exciting 2-2 draw in the women’s plate quarter-final before Valkyrs won 2-0 on flicks.

Lynsey Singer and Natalie Swales scored for Saracens in normal time.
