Three sailors rescued

by isleofman.com 29th March 2008
Three sailors from the Isle of Man had to be rescued from their boat off the Lancashire coast last week.

The motor cruiser Coco Leoni was stranded on the beach at Lytham after running aground.

Attempts to tow her back to deeper water failed when the coatsguard was called at 2.30pm on Thursday.

The three crewmen were travelling home to Peel from Preston Docks when they found themselves in trouble.

James Davis reports (audio file attached):

The Lytham and St Annes inshore lifeboat was called and the coastguard rescue team also stood by.

All three men were successfully taken from the boat by rescue crews, but the boat had to be left where it lay.

The Coastguard says the boat ran aground during a high tide and the next few weeks will see lower tides than Thursday’s.

That may mean the Coco Leoni will have to be left on the beach awaiting a tide high enough to refloat on.
