Alcohol strategy failing - claim

by isleofman.com 31st March 2008
The Celtic League has accused the government in failing in its strategy to tackle alcohol abuse.

In a statement, the organisation says the Chief Minister’s Drug and Alcohol Strategy hasn’t managed to dent the growing problem of alcohol misuse.

Bernard Moffatt (pictured), the League’s Director of Information, says the body recently hit out at what it termed “unfounded claims in the media” about levels of alcohol misuse.

But he claims the agency is out of touch with reality.

Jason Roberts reports:

Mr Moffatt says indicators from the Courts, the annual report of the
Constabulary and what people see around them all point to a growing
problem.

He says that indicates a failure of government policies to address the issue.
In three years, says Mr Moffatt, there has been no solution to what he calls a tide of a social degeneration.

And Mr Moffatt calls on the Chief Minister to admit government policy has been unsuccessful.
