Pier work under way

by isleofman.com 31st March 2008
Safety works are underway on Ramsey's Queen's Pier, after an inspection by an engineering firm last year highlighted a number of shortcomings.

Loose railings, lamp posts and unsecured steps were the primary cause for concern and are being addressed.

The Department of Transport has contracted the firm to carry out the work, which includes removing items which are in danger of falling, and could present a health and safty risk to the public.

During the inspection, the securing arrangements for the railings at the landward end of the pier were renewed.

Another improvement will be the placing of further signs to warn the public of the dangers of walking on or around the pier.

Weather permitting, the work is expected to take nine days.
