Tesco is thinking about setting up in Jersey, and the company's 'Manx experience' will have a bearing on whether the plan is progressed.
The Jersey Evening Post reports that a competition study concluded demand would support a third supermarket chain in the Channel Island.
Tesco was asked to contribute to the study, carried out for Economic Development Minister Philip Ozouf by the Island's competition regulator.
A significant part of the study was a comparison between Jersey and the Isle of Man, where Tesco competes against two other chains.
A report into future retailing in the Isle of Man was due to be presented to the Manx Government's Economic Development Committee in February.
It was compiled by the Glasgow based firm Roger Tym and Partners, supported by Black Grace Cowley.
The aim was 'to provide the first comprehensive audit of the size and composition of the Manx retail sector'.
