Global problems could help island

The effects of the global credit crunch on many Western economies could provide new business opportunities for the Isle of Man, according to the Treasury Minister.

Around us, both the UK and Republic of Ireland are suffering - housebuilding in England is at its lowest level for 12 years, and the Irish property market has 'imploded' leading to speculation that some banks there may have to be nationalised to survive.

By comparison, the Isle of Man still has a buoyant and growing economy and a strong property market, which Allan Bell says is because we're able to react quickly to new challenges:
