A quarterly test of the all-Island public warning siren system will take place on Saturday morning.

Sirens at 30 of the 31 sites across the Island will sound the steady 'all clear' signal, for 15 seconds from 11am.

The Mount Murray siren will not be tested and, after some debate about its location, it is to be re-positioned, on a nearby MEA substation.

Members of the public are reminded that in a real emergency the sirens would sound a rising and falling note for three minutes.

In such circumstances, people should stay indoors and tune in to local radio, to find out the nature of the emergency and advice on any action to be taken.

Today's test is a routine exercise, and there is no need to take any action.
