Six sign up for library service

Douglas Corporation is defending its decision to offer its library facilities to the whole Island, in the face of criticism from the commissioners in Peel and Port Erin.

To date, six local authorities have paid the one-off fee to the Town Hall, which will give their rate payers access to the Henry Bloom Noble library in Victoria Street.

Leisure Services Committee Chairman Raina Chatel is pleased with the response to the Corporation's offer, which has been made to commemorate 2008 as the United Kingdom's National Year of Reading.
