Minister trying to extend derogation

The Agriculture Minister is once more attempting to secure an extension to the mechanism which protects the Isle of Man from foreign meat imports.

Phil Gawne is in Brussels putting forward the case about why the end of the red meat derogation should be postponed beyond 2010.

It's feared the expiration of the derogation will lead to real problems for Manx farmers as cheaper meat is brought into the Island.

But Mr Gawne (pictured) is not very hopeful about changing the mind of the decision makers:
