Bereavement payments planned

Carers in the Isle of Man could soon benefit from a ?1,000 tax free, lump sum payment, to help them move on after the death of the person they had been caring for.

Health Minister Eddie Teare will approval for the Carer's Bereavement Payment Scheme in Tynwald on Tuesday.

It will be on top of the current carer's allowance of ?50 per week, which continues eight weeks after the cared for person's death.

Mr Teare (pictured) says for many, caring has been a full-time role, and the one-off payment will help ease them into the next stage of their lives:
