?2m tax windfall for Island

The Isle of Man should receive a 'windfall' of over ?2 million, as a result of increases in duty on beers, wines, spirits and cigarettes announced by the Chancellor in last month's United Kingdom Budget.

Treasury Minister Allan Bell (pictured) told Tynwald the exact sum was dependent on economic growth being as predicted.

He also reminded members today (Tues) that under new arrangements, revenue sharing for VAT was now dependent on growth acheived in both the Isle of Man and United Kingdom economies:
