In Tynwald this week, Rushen MHK Juan Watterson asked Treasury Minister Allan Bell how many people fell into each of the Island’s tax bands.
In response, Mr Bell said in the last tax year, around 16,000 people paid no tax, 26,000 paid ten per cent, almost 25,000 paid 18 per cent and 59 people paid the maximum ?100,000.
In his written answer, Mr Bell added a further 455 people earned so little they weren’t required to submit an annual tax return.
