Pillion passenger inquest

by isleofman.com 18th April 2008
A 20 year old bike passenger who lost her life after a crash on the Mountain road last year died as the result of an accident, an inquest has heard.

Coroner of Inquests Michael Moyle was told Stacey Andrews had been the pillion passenger on her boyfriend Raymond Lawley’s Yamaha R1.

Both they and a friend were riding over the Mountain road towards Douglas on October 14 in good conditions and bright sunshine.

But the day out turned to tragedy as Mr Lawley moved to overtake a line of three cars between Guthrie’s and the Mountain Box.

Jason Roberts reports:

The court heard Janet Crowe was driving her car and decided to overtake the car in front, forcing Mr Lawley onto the grass verge.

He lost control of the bike and later regained consciousness at the roadside, only to find that Stacey had already died from massive blunt force trauma.

Mrs Crowe later admitted a charge of driving without due care and attention and received a driving ban and fine.

Mr Moyle said Mrs Crowe hadn’t set out to cause a crash and the incident had been a terrible accident.

He recorded a verdict of accidental death.
