One of the United Kingdom's leading political thinkers will address the Positive Action Groups public meeting at the Claremont Hotel in Douglas tomorrow night (Monday).

Colin Hay, who's Professor of Political Analysis at the University of Sheffield, will give a talk about the subject matter of his new book, 'Why We Hate Politics'.

It traces the development of the current climate of political disenchantment, which has spread through many of the world's established democracies.

Last month, Mr Hay shared a platform with Liberal Democrat Leader Nick Clegg, who told the packed meeting that politics is broken and the British public has never been more disenchanted.

The PAG is asking if this is also applicable to the Isle of Man.

In a media statement, the group's Chairman Roger Tomlinson draws attention to the low number of contests in next week's local authority election.

He says this could indicate there's disaffection with both the Island's local and national politics and says this isn't a healthy situation.

Mr Tomlinson says the PAG is fortunate to have such a distinguished speaker as Mr Hay to consider the issue of political disengagement.

The meeting is at 7.30pm, is free and all are welcome to attend.
