St John's produce shock of the round

by isleofman.com 21st April 2008
St John's provided the shock of the round so far during last night's NK Joinery Hospital Cup first round, knocking St Mary's out on penalties.

It finished 1-1 after normal and then extra-time via goals from Josh Thomas and Wes Kitching for St Mary's and St John's respectively.

But it was the Westerners who kept their nerve during the shootout, taking it 3-1.

The evening's remaining ties went very much to form.

Union Mills fired in six at home to Malew, with goals from David Hicks, Steven Quine, Michael Collister, Dean France and a Carl Dobbin brace.

And Old Boys beat Marown 6-1 at Blackberry Lane.

Gary Quirk grabbed a couple and there were also goals for Sean Gavin, Liam Buckley, Craig Stewart and Drew Ward.

The other first round matches will be played a week on Wednesday, April 30.

The draw for the next round will be made by Chairman of Fixtures Tony Mepham live on The Back Page on Manx Radio that evening.
